Welcome home. We are really glad you are here. Come on in!
The Episcopal Church is not the building, not the service, not the pomp or attire, it is people, people just like you. Without you there is no church.
If you are new to the Episcopal Church here are a few glimpses of the service. Some terms may seem unusual or strange at first, don't worry about that. We all started that way.
We are a Liturgical Community, but all Liturgy means is "The Work of the People." We pattern the service after that Work, the Liturgy of the Word first and then the Liturgy of the Table. The former is the Lessons and Sermon while the latter is the Lord's Supper or Communion, also called the Eucharist.
Here is an explanation of the Eucharist Service.
During the service we usually sit during instruction like the Lessons and the Sermon, stand or kneel for prayer and stand up for songs of praise and for the reading of the Gospel. There is a Prayer Book and Hymnal and the Hymns will be listed up front and in your Bulletin. The Prayer Book is called the Book of Common Prayer and its origin goes way back, even before the King James Version of the Bible.
Above all though, we want you to feel comfortable. Follow the folk around you or the customs of your current church; just worship joyfully.
